How to Connect Roller Shutters to an Alarm

In order to keep unauthorized people from gaining access to your home or business, you must connect your roller shutters to an alarm. There are several different types of alarm systems available and it is important to choose one that will provide you with the most security.

Manual Locks

A manual lock is a great option if you want to be able to manually open and close your roller shutters. These locks are typically located on the bottom profile of the rollshutter or along the curtain. They are easy to use and are very sturdy. However, they may not be as secure as a magnetic switch that is installed inside the rollshutter.

Manual Override Motors

If you need to get into the building from a remote location, you should consider installing a manual override motor. This will allow you to crank your rolling shutters down in the event of a power outage or motor failure. This type of motor is also very useful if you need to secure the entrance to your building.

Slat Edge Sensors

A slat edge sensor is a system that detects attempts to lift or cut a slat. This type of sensor is inserted into the slats before they are put into place and connects easily to any alarm system.

When the slat is lifted, the sensor will activate an alarm that will alert you to the intrusion. This is a very effective way to prevent any sort of intrusion from happening in the first place, and it can be extremely convenient to have.

Installing a Motion Detector

The first step in connecting the roller shutter motion detector to DoorProtect Plus is to break out the plug on the right side of the SmartBracket panel. This will ensure that the roller shutter motion detector is connected to the device properly and that it does not block access to the window or door.

Once the roller shutter motion detector is connected to the SmartBracket panel, you can set the time before it will raise an alarm in DoorProtect Plus. This setting is configured in increments of 5 seconds.

You can also configure the time before an alarm is triggered in increments of 3 minutes. This option is great for when you have a large number of doors or windows in your building.

Alternatively, you can install a wireless RF system that will enable you to operate the roller shutters remotely. This will provide you with a much higher level of privacy than you would with the manual override option.

Another great option for rolling shutters is to have a wired motion detector installed inside the slats of your roller shutters. This can be done with a wired detector that is armed or unarmed, depending on how you want it to work.

If you decide to have a wired detector, make sure that it has an NC (normally closed) contact. This will mean that it does not trigger an alarm if you accidentally press a button on your phone or other device.
